Every year, Whiteside County Democratic Central Committee sponsors a
scholarship to Sauk Valley Community College. The award is $750. It is
awarded based on a student’s application and short essay. The
deadline for application for each year’s scholarship is the fourth Friday
of June. Applications can be obtained from any Whiteside County high
school counselor, Sauk Valley Community College’s Financial Aid Office,
by contacting Katherine Nelson at 815-625-3266, or through our

$750 Scholarship Available
The Whiteside County Democrats is an organization dedicated to educating themselves and others to political
issues concerning all Americans. Further, we firmly believe education to be the means by which individuals can
improve not only their own lives, but contribute to society in diverse and tangible ways.
In consequence of the above, we offer a seven hundred fifty dollar ($750) award to a graduate of a Whiteside
County High School.
Qualifications
1. Must be a registered voter in Whiteside County.
2. Must be a Sauk Valley Community College student.
3. Must submit a short essay detailing his/her views, opinions, and involvement (or planned involvement) in
the Illinois Democratic political process.
4. May be a male or female, of any race, color, religion, or financial status.
The Process
1. This is a one-year scholarship to be awarded in two (2) three hundred seventy-five dollar ($375)
increments - one-half fall, one-half spring, and/or summer semesters.
2. Selected student must participate and actively work in activities related to the election of Democratic
candidates and Democratic Party functions. The Party, however, realizes the recipient's education and
success are his/her main goal.
The Committee
1. The Chairman or his Designee(s) of the Whiteside County Democratic Central Committee will make up the
Scholarship Committee and will make the selection of the winner of this award.
2. Notification of the winner, if any, will be made by fourth Friday in July.
